I absolutely love Memorial Day, and I’m so glad that I can share it with my two babies now. We had a fun-filled weekend filled with family and food, and of course remembering and celebrating those who have bravely served our country.
Memorial Day is great because it really marks the beginning of summer, the beginning of grill season, and the beginning of weekends spent outside swimming and having fun! I always like to pause during this time of year because before we know it, summer will be over and we will be wishing it were May again!
I think it would be safe to say that these two had an amazing weekend, despite a small cold for Ella that appeared Sunday, and they are happy just cuddling and relaxing on this rainy, cloudy day today.
I hope you had a great Memorial Day weekend too!
One of the best parts of this weekend was the delicious food that we enjoyed. To say that we indulged is an understatement! We went to family parties on Saturday and Sunday, and for both we had hotdogs and hamburgers on the grill. We also had some of my favorite side dishes; macaroni and pasta salads, deviled eggs, salad, eggplant, macaroni and cheese, and a caprese salad that I made. I should have taken photos of dessert because there were some pretty amazing desserts too!
This was so easy and so patriotic! I just layered rows of tomatoes and mozzarella cheese to resemble the flag in a large serving platter. I put some blueberries to represent the stars and blue section of the flag, and then drizzled some balsamic grape glaze that I found at the grocery store. It was delicious and refreshing!
Since we had such busy but relaxing days on Saturday and Sunday, Chris and I decided to get to work on packing and organizing our house to move on Monday. The kids enjoyed some quality time with Nonnie and we were grateful to have some adult time too, and enjoy a delicious brunch at one of our favorite local restaurants!
OMG doesn’t this look amazing?! I ordered eggs Benedict with bacon, Chris ordered corn beef hash and we shared a cannoli cream stuffed waffle with bananas foster on top. Why not, right?! Back to clean eating today… 😉
Thank goodness both Saturday and Sunday were beautiful and we never saw rain because the kids had SO much fun hanging out with their cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents and great-grandparents! On Saturday James loved playing in Pop Pop’s new shed, which he thought was a barn, and playing with the water table. Ella enjoyed the sunshine and water table too. I’m just so excited for summer and love watching James run around this year and play!
On Sunday, we got to enjoy a nice cookout at my aunt and uncles’ house and James had his first experience with an awesome treehouse!
He was so excited to climb up there and explore nature. He also tried his first freeze-pop, and it was a hit of course!
It’s safe to say that after all that sun, running around, sugar, and fun, the kids were exhausted both nights! One thing that I equally love and hate about summer is late bedtimes. Not sticking to our routine can be fun once in a while and I love seeing the kids so happy. Unfortunately though, staying up late doesn’t always mean sleeping in.
Fellow moms, you feel me right?!
Luckily, this morning they must have both been exhausted from the weekend because we didn’t wake up until 7:30! Woo hoo!! I felt like a new person this morning :).
I didn’t even take a ton of photos this weekend because we were having so much fun! But here’s one I snagged of James and I. He’s getting so big!
We had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend having fun with family, and celebrating our country’s military. So many people who are close to my heart have served/are serving right now, and I couldn’t be more grateful for their service to our country. A special thank you to my Papa in heaven, who loved telling stories of his days in the navy and the Korean War. <3
Have a great week!
