What’s On The Menu Wednesday

Happy Wednesday! (Which means the week is halfway over!). I can’t believe that it’s April already. This is a jam-packed month, which I don’t mind, and my little girl turns 7 months tomorrow! Time is flying!

I haven’t posted about food in a little while because, to be honest, I’ve felt a little uninspired. Even when you are trying to eat healthy and are trying out new recipes, you find yourself stuck in a routine after a while. If anyone has some great recipes that you love, please share! I need some inspiration!

How to Teach a Toddler Empathy Through Reading

Literacy is a powerful tool, especially when we live in a world that can be intimidating and new to toddlers. Using books to teach toddlers lessons from an early age is one of our most powerful tools as parents. As a certified Literacy Specialist, I urge you to be thoughtful in the books you choose for your toddlers at such a young and impressionable age! There are some great titles out there, and many teachable moments for you and your little ones.

In our house, my 20 month old son has been fascinated with feelings lately, as well as the statement “Oh no!” He understands conflict and resolution more clearly in the shows he watches, in real life, and in the books he reads. He loves to point out when he sees a character crying and loves to shout hurray when a problem is solved. Having a baby sister has also begun to expose him to empathy and understand that other people have feelings too. I’ve realized that this is the perfect time to start teaching him about empathy and using his emotions.

Favorite Spring Things

I think it’s kind of hilarious that as I’m writing this post about spring, the forecast says snow tomorrow! I just can’t win when it comes to weather this year.

Well April 1st is tomorrow and hopefully we will start to see some spring soon! In honor of the season, I’m sharing some of my favorites for Spring right now. Categories include toys, baby product, craft, Easter accessory, style, food and drink, and fitness.

Enjoy, and have a great weekend!

A Day In The Life of Two Under Two

Many people ask me about our “routine” or “schedule” and, if you are a mom, you know that schedules constantly change. It’s kind of like a schedule in a classroom. When I was a teacher, we definitely had a schedule and routine that we followed each day, but due to… well life… things were always changing! And that’s a good thing. Still, I’m a visual learner and I like to have a schedule in my mind, so I like to think we have sort of plan every day!

When you have two babies under two years old, you change your schedule based on their needs (because they are both extremely needy 😉 ) but routines are built into us, regardless of age! I thought I’d give a sneak peek into our schedule, plus give you some examples of routines we have. Keeping a rough schedule in my head gives me purpose, makes me feel important, keeps me on track throughout the day, and helps me feel organized! And if you’re a mom, you need to be organized! Now that we’re almost at the 7 month mark with two under two, I can actually say we have a great schedule and routine down.

Two Under Two Update!

Good Morning! I feel like I haven’t exactly “had my ducks in a row” lately! Funny because James has been slowly changing his obsession with horses to an obsession with ducks! So fitting for Easter coming up :). I can’t wait to get this kid to a petting zoo soon!

We have all been sick for the last week, I am SO over this lack of spring weather, and I just feel blah. Not to mention I haven’t had much time to exercise while wiping noses and cleaning everything with these babies lately. That’s ok, I’m confident that we’re on the mend and almost out of this slump. The great thing is that I am home and don’t have to worry about taking time off work for sick kids, etc. and if we want to hang in our pajamas all day we can!

Here’s what has been going on here!

10 Ways I Am Rocking Motherhood

Becoming a mom has been one of the most challenging yet rewarding things I have ever done. Despite the craziness that is normal life, I often sit back and think about why I am grateful, reflect on what I believe I am doing right and what I can improve upon, and remember to kiss and hug my babies a little more because they are the reason for all that I do.

Thank you to Kate over at One Pea in The Pod for tagging me in the amazing #RockingMotherhood Challenge.  I am taking this opportunity to brag a little bit about why I think I am rocking motherhood. Come on, in this world of mom guilt and pressure from society, we all need to give ourselves a little credit sometimes! What is the Rocking Motherhood Challenge? It’s a challenge making the rounds in blog land where moms tag other moms to write a post about 10 or more ways they are #ROCKINGMOTHERHOOD. The purpose is to help encourage other moms to step back and be proud of the things they are doing well as a parent!

The Art of Putting a Baby to Sleep

And so the old saying goes, “Put the baby down when they are still awake. Sleepy, but awake, as to avoid any sleep associations.” I don’t think the original person who first suggested this was even a parent. If you thought this was a self help article or I had any words of wisdom on how to get your children to sleep soundly on their own, you should look elsewhere. But if you’re looking for a laugh, or you are simply a parent who is an “expert” at the art of putting a baby to sleep and want to commiserate, read on.

Monday Minute

I don’t know about you, but when I have a particularly busy weekend I feel so unorganized when Monday morning comes! Usually I would feel exhausted and sad that the weekend was over, but today I am choosing to embrace the mess, enjoy my babies, and be thankful to be home after a busy few days.

This weekend was great. Saturday, I got to see the new Beauty and the Beast movie with my mom and relive my childhood! I also made a trip to Trader Joe’s with James, which I absolutely love but don’t get to often, and we took a nice long walk as a family. Saturday night Chris and I ordered Mexican. It was the perfect family day!

Sunday was very different than usual and so refreshing. Chris got up with both babies and I got to sleep in a bit. Then we had an appointment to get our taxes done, and at first we thought about bringing both kids. Then Chris’ parents offered to babysit James because they had been wanting to take him for a while, and we agreed it would be the perfect opportunity! My mom then offered to watch Ella and all of a sudden it became a kid-free day! I can’t believe we actually had a day together without the kids. It is the first time that this has ever happened, and I must say it was very refreshing.

How to Create a Beautiful Nursery on a Budget

It’s Friday! And that means “Friday Favorite!” Today, I decided to focus on one of my favorite things – our home, and more specifically my children’s nurseries. I thought long and hard about how I wanted to decorate my son’s nursery, and spent a little more on it than I would have liked, but by the second just a year later, I realized what things were practical and what were not necessary! What I’ve learned is that it is possible to create a beautiful nursery on a budget.
